Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Treatment in Sun Prairie

Whether you’re an office worker who spends hours a day at the keyboard, have another type of career requiring repetitive hand movements, or an athlete who frequently uses your wrists doing push-ups or bench presses, you may experience carpal tunnel syndrome.

This debilitating condition is characterized by the compression of the median nerve as it passes through the narrow carpal tunnel in the wrist. This compression can lead to numbness, tingling, weakness, and pain in the hand and fingers, making everyday tasks challenging.

How Chiropractic Care Can Help

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is common in pregnant women, and chiropractic adjustments are a safe, effective, drug-free way to care for them. Fortunately, chiropractic care offers an effective solution to alleviate the symptoms and address the underlying causes of this condition.

As the median nerve originates in the neck, the first thing that Dr. Sandy does is check for proper neck alignment and misalignments in the cervical vertebrae. We follow that nerve all the way down the arm, through the shoulder, down into the elbow, and then into the wrist to ensure there are no other areas where that median nerve can be experiencing interference or irritation.

Most often, we find that the bones of the wrist have flattened and reduced that opening (what we call the carpal tunnel). Adjusting the wrist to restore the proper arch in those bones is all it takes to relieve the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome. Dr. Sandy may also do soft tissue work in the forearm and hand to alleviate the muscle tightness created there.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often will I need to come in for care?

The frequency of chiropractic treatments depends on the severity of the condition and your activities. Initially, frequent visits (a few times a week) may be recommended to realign the wrist bones and provide relief. As symptoms improve, visits can be reduced.

What are some other things you recommend to help patients with CTS?

Dr. Sandy also may recommend wearing a wrist brace, especially at night, to allow the wrist muscles to relax. It’s also important to modify activities or ergonomics to reduce strain on the wrist.
